When Lexington Freezes Over

Wow! We thought we'd seen it all: piles of snow in Provo, torrential rain in Uruguay, and blistering heat in St. George. However, today we woke up to something totally new--Lexington under ice. It's called freezing rain and that's exactly what it does, it freezes on contact. When we watched the news this morning, they were calling it a weather emergency. We laughed to ourselves and got ready for another regular day. Then we went outside and came back in believing the weatherman after all.
As you can see from the pictures, we are covered in thick sheets of ice. The car door won't open, the mailbox is sealed shut, and the garbage can is stuck to the ground. So, we're staying home (BJ included!)

Looks just like any other snowy day in Lexington... but wait 'til you have a closer look!

It was a futile effort to clear off the car... It had a solid half-inch-thick sheet of ice over it.

Here's what it looks like up-close...

It looks rather festive, doesn't it?

The Close-up...

And Last, but not Least...
Our Mailbox (I don't think we'll be getting any mail today).

I had a feeling last night you all were thinking..."These kentuckians are just so afraid of snow..."

haha, we showed you! ;)

So glad BJ got to stay home today, hope you had a fun one! I snuggled with Axl ALL DAY LONG!

That is insane! I always wondered what freezing rain was supposed to be. Rae, did you slip when you went out to take those pictures? Be honest now... :)

Nope, I didn't slip, thank you very much, BJ slipped when HE took the pictures. :)

Weird isn't it? One year we got that in VT ON TOP of 2ft of snow. It was thick enough that we could walk/run/sled on top of the snow! Very weird but very fun....and dangerous

I LOVE freezing rain! I think it is the MOST beautiful thing I have ever seen, the trees (like you found) are just sparkling! I'm sorry you had to experience it, but it is definitely worth it!
